
Another one of Durban's clocks. This one is located at city hall.
So apparently there is a particular clock tower in Durban dating from the late 1800’s; a gift from the Portuguese to mark 400 years since Vasco da Gama sailed by. With all the history that has taken up our last 20 or so years, doesn’t 1897 just seem like ancient history? Understandably, this poor clock has been forgotten, moved, neglected and broken. Recently the city has shed some hope on its plight, and there are plans to move it back to its original position at the Point and restore it to its former glory. It currently resides on the Esplanade: see if you can spot it next time you’re in the area!
